We Have Stamina is a poster collection I designed for the Women’s March on Washington on January 21, 2017. I brought a set to D.C. and also distributed the posters across the country at sister marches. I was inspired by President Elect Donald Trump’s comment that Hillary Clinton “doesn’t have the stamina” [to be President] during a debate. Women’s lack of stamina compared to men’s is a sexist and male chauvinistic attitude that’s been lodged against women since the beginning of time.

I created 13 portraits of (a few of) the women that have been a positive and important influence in my life. Their portrait is accompanied by only their first name, as they could be you, me or any woman. On the back of each portrait is a letter filled with a powerful quote from each woman. During the march, I asked volunteers to wear the posters which spelled out “We Have Stamina.” Throughout the morning, many marchers participated, forming a line across the crowd and often chanting “we have stamina” together. A group in the Boston sister march did this as well. A stand-alone poster that includes all the portraits and the words, “We Have Stamina” was printed and distributed in D.C. and sister marches across the country.
